Setup โ€” about 5 minutes

Lexpert Voice is a local, private dictation app โ€” your audio and transcripts never leave your Mac. Setup is the one-time permissions step macOS requires of any dictation tool.

Before you start: an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer). It won't run on Intel Macs. You'll grant 3 permissions and change 1 keyboard setting.

1 Install

Open the .dmg, drag Lexpert Voice to Applications, and open it. It's notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings. It's a menu-bar app โ€” no Dock icon; look for its icon in the top-right menu bar.

2 Grant permissions

Open System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security and enable Lexpert Voice under each:

PermissionWhy
Microphoneto hear your dictation
Accessibilityto type the text into your document
Input Monitoringso the Fn key can start/stop dictation
If something doesn't work right after granting a permission, quit Lexpert Voice and reopen it โ€” macOS often applies a new permission only after a restart.

3 One keyboard setting

So the Fn key dictates instead of opening the emoji picker:

4 Dictate

Put your cursor in any text field, then:
